Setup - three fields

  1. Create a key in Settings → API keys (name it e.g. “cline desktop” - new keys start capped at 5,000 credits/month).
  2. In VS Code, open Cline → Settings → API Provider → OpenAI Compatible.
  3. Fill in the three fields below. Model ID is fast or balanced.

Base URL: https://velatl.ai/api/v1
API Key:  velatl_...  (paste the secret once; revoke anytime in Settings)
Model ID: fast        (or "balanced" for harder tasks)

What works - and what is rejected

  • Streaming, tool calling and planning loops work; tool definitions bill as input tokens, so disable MCP servers and tools the task doesn't need.
  • Text + tools only: image inputs, forced tool choice and response_format combined with tools are rejected with a clear 400 before billing.
  • Out of credits → 402 insufficient_credits - top up in billing; failed calls refund automatically.
  • Every response carries X-Request-Id - quote it in support mail.
